Inspiration

영감 Inspiration

'뿌리깊은나무'라는 이름은 한국 문화사에서 반복적으로 호출되어 온 근원성의 언어입니다. 백성을 사랑하는 세종의 통치자로서의 집단적 부성에서 시작되어, 김수영의 거대한 뿌리를 거쳐, 한창기의 기록 정신에까지 이르렀습니다. The name Deeply Rooted Tree (뿌리깊은나무) is a language of origin that has been summoned again and again across Korean cultural history. It began with King Sejong's expansive love for his people, passed through Kim Su-yeong's defiant poem "Giant Root" (거대한 뿌리), and found its echo in Han Chang-gi's lifelong devotion to documentation.

한창기는 스무 권의 민중 자서전을 남겼습니다. 제암리 학살의 증인, 조선의 마지막 목수, 안동포를 짜는 아낙, 남도의 옹기쟁이, 제주 4.3의 생존자. 이름 없는 이들의 육성을 그들의 토박이말로, 그들의 결대로 기록한 것입니다. Han Chang-gi left behind twenty volumes of ordinary lives recorded in their own voices. A witness to the Jeam-ri massacre. The last master carpenter of a dying tradition. A weaver of Andong cloth. A potter of the southern provinces. A survivor of Jeju April 3rd. Each voice was set down in its own dialect, in the grain of its own lived experience.

뿌리 깊은 나무는 바람에 흔들리지 않는다. 세종이 백성을 향해 쓴 근원의 언어. "뿌리깊은나무"는 여기서 시작됩니다. A tree with deep roots does not tremble in the wind. The language of origin, composed by King Sejong in devotion to his people. Deeply Rooted Tree (뿌리깊은나무) begins here.

요강, 망건, 장죽, 곰보, 애꾸, 무식쟁이. 낡고 천하다 여겨지던 것들이 이 땅의 거대한 뿌리임을 선언한 시. 근원은 위에서 오는 것이 아니라 아래에서 올라오는 것. "To plant my feet on this land — the steel pillars driven into the riverbed beneath the Third Pedestrian Bridge are but the fuzz of a woodworm beside the giant roots I drive into my own soil."

Chamber pots, horsehair caps, long pipes, the pockmarked, the one-eyed, the unlettered. A poem that proclaimed the things deemed old and lowly to be the giant roots of this land. Origin rises from below, never from above.

「뿌리깊은나무」 잡지 Ppurigibeun Namu (뿌리깊은나무) Magazine
한창기(1936–1997). 서울대 법대를 졸업하고 브리태니커 본사를 설득해 한국 문화를 담은 잡지를 만들었습니다. 순한글 가로쓰기. 훈민정음체 제호. 8만 부 이상을 찍은, 당시 최고 발행부수의 교양지.

"전통의 규범문화에 치이고, 외래 상업문화에 밀린 토박이 민중문화에 물길을 터주려고 애쓰는 사람들을 거들기 위해서."
— 뿌리깊은나무 창간사 Han Chang-gi (한창기, 1936–1997). A graduate of Seoul National University Law School, he persuaded Encyclopaedia Britannica headquarters to let him create a magazine devoted to Korean culture. Pure Korean script, set horizontally. A masthead modeled on the Hunminjeongeum (훈민정음). Over 80,000 copies per issue — the most widely circulated cultural magazine of its era.

3중 순환 구조 Triadic Cycle

뿌리깊은나무 연구소는 하나의 기능 조직이 아닙니다. 기록에서 서사로, 서사에서 전략으로, 전략에서 실천으로 이어지는 흐름 전체를 설계합니다. 세 기능은 분리되어 보이지만 실제로는 순환합니다. Rooted Institute is not a single-function organization. It stewards the entire movement from records to narrative, from narrative to strategy, from strategy to action. These three functions appear distinct, yet in practice they circulate as one.

기록 없이 내린 판단은 편견입니다. 기록은 공적 판단의 근거이자, 정당성의 출발점입니다. A judgment rendered without records is prejudice. Records are the foundation of public judgment and the point from which legitimacy begins.

과거에 뿌리를 두지 않은 미래는 맥락을 잃고,
승화되지 않은 과거는 답습과 반복을 낳으며,
전략 없는 기록은 침묵 속에 방치됩니다. A future unrooted in the past loses its context.
